Abstract

The production of tissue factor (TF) from neutrophils (PMNs) and their role in thrombotic process is a matter of scientific debate. Experimental studies show that PMNs are able to produce TF under specific inflammatory stimuli. Recent studies demonstrated that PMNs are crucial for thrombus formation and PMN-derived TF may significantly contribute in this process. However, the mechanism that underlies the activation of PMN-derived TF is not fully understood, since PMN TF is mainly located intracellularly. It is important to note that the expression of TF in the surface of the cells is imperative for its functionality.
