Abstract

During the last century there has been noted an increase in life expectancy tending to increase further in the next decades. Genetics and environmental mechanisms have been found to correlate with longevity. Prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, being the first cause of death in recent years, constitute a priority for increasing life expectancy. In this review we will investigate the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and longevity and the appropriate measures to achieve it.
